The best wine of 2013 thus far!! Simple.
The Wickhams Road Gippsland Pinot Noir 2012 would certainly be
the most written up and reviewed wine since its release, and you know what,
every word written about it is spot on; The Best value bar none.
First tasted on January 24th this year with Stef
d’Anna, the wine, as the note says, “ticks all the boxes”. Lovely and earthy
spice on the nose, the wine lifts after a while and throws up subtle leafy
notes with tomato and rhubarb present. The palate follows suit of the nose with
a great lick of prickly spice and prickly plum. This is another Icona Pop wine I
Have to say. Just get it. Now.

This is great news! This wine was a personal favourite last year and it's pleasing to hear that the good times are set to continue. I'm a big fan of Gippsland Pinot. I know that you love Bindi (and I do too) but Gippsland just seems to deliver so easily almost every time. Question: Is a great wine that costs half the price twice as good?

ReplyDeleteThe great thing about objectivity is value is a perception of how much you want to spend, be it $17, $70 or $700. Also, when you are blessed with a cracking vintage like 2012, a $17 bottle of wine may genuinely be better that a $70 bottle from an inferior vintage. Horses for courses and all that.
